Goal for this project was to put a new back porch for this cute 1929 home.
We added doors to enclose the space beneath to be used for storage (including kayaks!). Happy to not disturb the planter under the kitchen window.

The existing back porch was not original, nor was it cohesive with this vintage home.
Other issues: The beam was undersized, and the wall under the beam was bowing. It needed massive repairs, decisions had to be made.
Note: We retained the existing upper balcony.

We decided while correcting the structural issues we’d go ahead and fix the function and appearance at the same time.

For a short while, we considered doing a bedroom addition rather than a classic porch. Here’s what we were considering.

Here’s the new back porch for this cute 1929 home.

Let’s go up these stairs.

And they still managed to find space for a small guest bedroom!

Success! Now, the new back porch looks like it belongs with this beautiful 1929 home.
